Maverick (noun): An individualist, nonconformist, free spirit, a rebel.
We celebrate the birthdays of important musical American mavericks, giants who revolutionized the very DNA of music.
Front and center, we honor our nation’s greatest maestro, Leonard Bernstein, on his 100th birthday. His pure genius led to groundbreaking works across many genres, and we’ll present his famous “Symphonic Dances from West Side Story” and his playful “Divertimento.”
Two other American Mavericks celebrating birthdays are John Adams and Philip Glass. You’ll hear some of their greatest music for the orchestra. Join us to celebrate these true American originals, among the greatest our country has ever known!
